When Running Away is Good

Jaime Gomez Stories

When I decided to do my Discipleship Training School (DTS) two years ago, it was a rash last minute decision. I was in an incredibly unhealthy relationship and felt like I needed to flee to the other side of the world.  Since I was living in Florida, the other side of the world ended up being Australia, where I did my DTS. Though my relationship with God had been rocky for the months leading up to my DTS, I still knew there was more to …

I am not Judge and Jury.

Jaime Gomez Stories

“How am I in this position again?” I thought I had grown from my last experience.  No matter how many things I go through in life, I’m still needing to relearn lessons.  Years ago, I was mad at my gal pal. She had sinned and I immediately judged her for it. I was angry and upset and felt as if her sin affected me directly. I was disappointed in her for messing up and for not seeing the error of her ways. While sitting on …

Why do I need to contact them directly? If they want to be a part of this, they’ll make an effort and say something, do something. I’ll just wait for …

Songs for Manuelyne

Jaime Gomez News

We had just finished our lunch break, reluctant to leave the shade of the plumeria and palm trees sheltering the plank huts that made up the neighborhood know as Sector 21 in Kimbe, Papua New Guinea. Our team of medical professionals, DTS students and media team were halfway through our second day in this impoverished neighborhood. Margaret, our photographer, another team member and myself comprised the media team. I was looking for stories; someone with a debilitating ailment that only we could help or someone …

Four Lessons Learned during DTS

Jaime Gomez Stories

1. Communication is everything. It is no surprise to find out living with a group of random strangers can be difficult or working in teams can be frustrating. You name the scenario; working with people can be difficult and requires communication always. People are widely diverse, harboring different opinions, practicing habits you are not accustomed to, operating on a different sleep schedule…I could go on. Whether it’s between roommates, co-leaders, teammates, friends, or family, communicating requires effort and intentionality. But on the other end, a …
