He is there in the midst of daily life. He is faithful in the mundane. Jesus said, I will not leave you or forsake you.
Ever feel like your life is as simple as a ferris wheel? You know, that simple ride when the highlight of your day may be your coffee in the morning or it may be having a successful Thursday meeting at your job?
Meanwhile other people’s lives look like they’re on an insane, cool rollercoaster ride. They always seem to be having a new experience around every corner; traveling, getting job promotions, having a family, getting married and so on and so forth.
Comparison starts to creep in and you long to live the life they are living. They always come back with the remark, “Glory to God.” or “My life is all sorts of crazy!” You can’t help but to think that if you attended the same church service, went to the same small group as they do or maybe volunteer at the same place, it would be similar. No matter the situation, your life seems less exciting and you wonder if God even notices you in the mundane of life.
I’m here to share with you, He does. The Lord has taken this season, while I’ve worked as a full-time volunteer in an office setting at YWAM Ships Kona, to show me how He works in the 9-5 lifestyle.
For so long, I couldn’t help but to think that this was punishment. I had to somehow prove myself worthy before doing the “fun stuff.” Don’t get me wrong, I love working in the office, but I truly believed that my friends and family wouldn’t want to support what I was doing; that I had to keep going and being on the front lines for them to champion me in what I presented to them as “being a missionary worthy of the calling.”
“Whatever you do, do it for the glory of God.” – 1 Corinthians 10:31. The Bible tells us that everything we do, regardless if it’s the simplest task, do it for the Glory of God. Paul tells us to live a life of being content in all circumstances. Keep your life free from the love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you or forsake you.” – Hebrews 13:5
Jesus had to reshape my perspective on what I believed was, “worthy of the calling.” Because everything, as long as we do it for the glory of God, is valuable to the Kingdom. Jesus has kept me in this place to show me what it looks like to be content and I am so thankful.
Now, I go into each email, task, and mundane list that I must complete with joy, excitement, prayer, and a thankful heart that I have the opportunity to serve His Kingdom.
There is joy in the mundane. He is in each “small and simple task”. It is all for the ultimate purpose of bringing Glory to Him. Do it all with joy!
