The Open Door

Just yesterday I interviewed a Discipleship Training School student who had just returned from a 3 month outreach in Cambodia.

He told me about a day they were walking in the slums, and a man came running at them fast and intense. They froze, took guard, thinking he was about to attack. To their surprise, the man called to them as he came closer, “Do you have a Bible? Do you have a Bible?” They expected antagonism, but instead found an intense hunger. The doors are open.

Just this past Monday, I was privileged to hear from a speaker who came to YWAM Ships Kona who was Sri Lankan. He described the people there as being heavily involved in various religion, but searching for more, searching for something real. He said they are willing to hear about the Lord and be prayed for. The doors are open.

Papua New Guinea, of course, is the outreach location of many of our teams here, as it is where our two ships are, and it is where I went on outreach. Though familiar with the basic gospel, the people are hungry for deeper things. Several came up to us as we walked, asking us questions like “How do I pray?” and “How can I know God?” The doors are open.

These are just a few countries out of so many right now that have their doors open. 

Why do we assume the default of people is to reject the gospel, when the Bible says that God “planted eternity in the human heart” – Eccl. 3:11 and that he intended that the nations “would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from any one of us” – Acts 17:27.

God is not as far from these people as we might think, whether they wear a Buddhist robe, a tribal dress, or a burka. They need someone to go and tell them about Him.

The doors are open. 

Are you willing to step through them? To be brave and take that one step that could open up a person’s heart to knowing the God that is pursuing them?

You may be thinking, “But what can I do?“

Search your heart and see what God has placed in you. Can you spend 30 minutes in prayer for the nations or for missionaries there? Can you give financially to support a missionary, a bible project, or relief work?

Or can you do something bold and join a Discipleship Training School like I did along with thousands of others around the world?

We came for three months to get trained up in who God is, who we are, and tuned our ears to hear God’s voice. Then we go. We go from everywhere to everywhere; wherever the open door is calling us.

We experience God in a way we haven’t ever before; because we took a step we didn’t dare take before. 

So I’m wondering, if you can think of those waiting all over the world, holding the door open.  Will you step through?
