I am not Judge and Jury.

Jaime Gomez Stories

“How am I in this position again?” I thought I had grown from my last experience.  No matter how many things I go through in life, I’m still needing to relearn lessons.  Years ago, I was mad at my gal pal. She had sinned and I immediately judged her for it. I was angry and upset and felt as if her sin affected me directly. I was disappointed in her for messing up and for not seeing the error of her ways. While sitting on …

Stepping Into God’s Plan

Jaime Gomez News

YWAM Ships Kona’s sister ministry, the UofN Poipet is always up for a challenge. However, at the beginning of the year, the staff had a time of prayer and felt they should pioneer a Bible Core Course (BCC) immediately after pioneering a Discipleship Training School.  Even though this was a bit intimidating, they moved forward in an attempt to find an experienced BCC leader and Cambodian staff. After a few months, they came up with a grand total of ZERO experienced leaders or staff, at …

Brian’s Next Steps: From Revelation to a Life Motivated

Jaime Gomez Stories

“I didn’t have a relationship with God before DTS. It has changed so much since DTS. It’s deepened, become more natural. It has become part of my lifestyle more than anything.” Brian values a relationship with God so much more than he did before. He feels he understands God’s love and how much God loves him. What many students face upon completing their DTS is what they will be doing next. For Brian, during the lecture phase of his DTS, he was able to help …

God Goes Before Us

Jaime Gomez Stories

Every day of outreach is filled with a new expectancy for what the Lord is going to do, which includes many unknowns. My team and I were in our third week of outreach in the Southern Highlands Province of Papua New Guinea (PNG). Most of our time had been spent connecting with locals and playing with children, as well as preaching in the local churches.  It was amazing to see how hungry the believers were and it was a privilege to encourage them with the …

Equipping those He calls . . .

Jaime Gomez News, Stories

But who are you, O man, to answer back to God? Will what is molded say to its molder, “Why have you made me like this”? Romans 9:20 Before we felt God calling us to go into missions, I always felt like I didn’t have many skills to offer. I felt extremely inadequate and I would look at many of the ladies at church that led different programs and wished I had what they possessed.  I always heard the line “God doesn’t call the equipped, He …

Can You Trust Him?

Jaime Gomez Stories

A year ago, I would have called you crazy if you told me I would move to Hawaii, one of the most expensive places to live and become a full-time missionary. I would have thought you were even more insane if you were to tell me I would then move to Canada to start a new YWAM base.  I simply didn’t think my life would go in that direction.  So then, why am I here in Canada? How did I decide to make these huge …

UofN Poipet – God’s Reminder

Jaime Gomez Stories

Ngan, a 91-year-old grandmother, accepted Jesus the first time our team met her. They had been evangelizing in a village and ended up at her family’s house. After sharing the Gospel and stories about Jesus, Ngan told them she believed in Jesus.  A month later, our team visited Ngan. She told them she was thinking about Jesus but confessed that she didn’t understand how to worship God outside of normal Buddhists traditions and had gone back to her formal Buddhist background. She thought she had …

Is Fundraising Really Necessary?

Jaime Gomez Stories

Fundraising? No. I’m not gonna do it. I’ll just hope and pray that people will catch on to what I’m doing. I mean I’ll update facebook, send out blogs, maybe write a newsletter, and then see what happens.  I know people are interested in what I’m doing so they’ll make a move. They’ll contact me. Why do I need to contact them directly? If they want to be a part of this, they’ll make an effort and say something, do something. I’ll just wait for …

Flowers for Prostitutes

Jaime Gomez Stories

Door to door ministry. Handing out roses to women on the streets. Conversations and amazing prayer times. People’s lives being transformed. Some came to know the Lord; others were prayed for and encouraged. One of our January DTS teams recently finished up their 3-month outreach. They ministered to people in Florida and Costa Rica. Their ministry time was full of showing God’s love in the simplest of ways.  Prayer was a huge part of this outreach. Everywhere they went, the team prayed. They were always …

Racing Against Time

Jaime Gomez News

Christine, a ten-year-old girl had fallen from a tree the previous day. Tragically, she’d sustained a compound fracture to her left arm, leaving the bone sticking out of her skin. The young girl was in agonizing pain and at serious risk of losing her hand if she didn’t have surgery soon. Time is of the essence with this kind of injury. Ideally, compound fractures need surgery within a couple of hours to ensure full use of the limb and no further complications or infection. Unfortunately, …

“I Want to Walk”

Jaime Gomez News, Stories

As my team and I walked through Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, we entered a particular settlement where we saw some women. We felt like the Lord wanted us to talk to them. As we approached them, I asked one of the women how her day was going.  She replied with saying it wasn’t going very well. She was having a challenging day watching her sister’s children. When asked why she needed to take care of them if their mother was nearby, she explained that …

Team Cameroon: Don’t Give Up

Jaime Gomez Stories

Team Africa has spent their time visiting schools, an orphanage and a nursing home in Yaoundé, Cameroon. They’ve been sharing God’s love, engaging in discussions about who He is and praying for those wanting it. For their team day, they all climbed up the highest mountain in Yaoundé! It was very challenging but a tremendous amount of fun! Here’s Olivia’s account of the day: On Monday, my team and I climbed Mt. Eloumden. Last week and this week, I was not feeling well due to …

Snapshots from Abroad: Local Partnerships Prove Beneficial

Jaime Gomez News, Stories

“I learned a lot about medicine, myself, medicine and God.” Marianna Duncan, originally from Texas, is a nurse who after moving to Hawaii a couple of years ago, heard about YWAM Ships Kona from friends at church. Papua New Guinea (PNG) was the available option for volunteering. Once she arrived in PNG, the ship docked in Madang and then the team would travel to serve in many villages including Bulsom, Mapour, Kubam, Bulu, and the like as well as some islands named Karkar and Bagabag. …

Freedom, Reconciliation, and Forgiveness

Jaime Gomez Stories

The University of the Nations Poipet is one of YWAM Ships Kona’s sister ministries. Their first Discipleship Training School (DTS) is reaching the end of their outreach. Here’s a snippet of what the team has been a part of: We are nearing the end of our first ever DTS! Our team is currently on outreach in Indonesia; moving from village to village preaching the gospel as they go. On Monday night, they were in a tiny one-lane village, sharing at an event put on by …

Every Prayer is Heard

Jaime Gomez News, Stories

One of our Discipleship Training School (DTS) outreach teams recently helped out one of our sister ministries, YWAM Cap-Haiti. Here’s a snapshot from their time there: One of the team’s highlights was to distribute water filters. They went to different houses, talked to people, and found out who did not have access to clean water. Many people have to buy water or walk far to get it from a well or the river. Their first mission was pretty good and the people were very happy …

The Open Door

Jaime Gomez Stories

Just yesterday I interviewed a Discipleship Training School student who had just returned from a 3 month outreach in Cambodia. He told me about a day they were walking in the slums, and a man came running at them fast and intense. They froze, took guard, thinking he was about to attack. To their surprise, the man called to them as he came closer, “Do you have a Bible? Do you have a Bible?” They expected antagonism, but instead found an intense hunger. The doors …

Ending Bible Poverty in the Marshall Islands

Jaime Gomez News, Stories

There are some who passionately pursue the Lord’s will in all things. The ones who take their relationship with Christ seriously and will do anything that God asks them to do, even if that means leaving family and friends to be missionaries in another country.  Well, that’s us, a family of four who God asked to literally step out on the water (on a sailboat) and move to the Marshall Islands to share the love of God.  In April of 2013, we did a Family …

Hitting the Streets with God’s Love

Jaime Gomez News, Stories

In the last few months, YWAM Cap-Haiti had received two outreach teams. One from YWAM Ships Kona and another from YWAM Azua, located in the Dominican Republic. Both teams were actively involved in different ministries inside the campus, out in the community, and in the city of Cap-Haïtien. One of their jobs was to help install solar panels and connect all the wires so the base could get electricity 24/7 in the coming weeks. The teams were a great blessing in that process. The YWAM …

Andrew’s Story

Jaime Gomez Stories

My life radically changed the first week of my Discipleship Training School. I went from not really following the Lord to encountering him and learning all about Him. It was a roller coaster of growing in my relationship with Him and then crashing down in the last week. I had made a mistake and felt like a total failure.  I was convicted. I told my leader that I felt disqualified from God using me. I didn’t think I could go on outreach. The enemy lied …

The Hands and Feet of Jesus

Jaime Gomez News, Stories

KIMBE, Papua New Guinea — The truck turned off the paved road leading from town onto the dirt track that would take us up into the village hidden in the jungle, otherwise known as Sector 21. Crowded into the open truck bed, my teammates and I waited eagerly until the vehicle stopped in a clearing where dozens of people waited. Adults eyed us with shy curiosity. Children giggled with excitement over this visit from pale-skinned foreigners. Hungry looking dogs mingled with the humans. Our first day …

Outpost Panama – Homes of Hope Lends a Helping Hand

Jaime Gomez News, Stories

The fire stopped at Elizabeth’s property line, yet smoke filled her home permeating all of her belongs. The smell clinging to her clothes. Up to that point, her American employees only knew that she was a faithful worker. As they went to offer help, they soon realized that Elizabeth lived in the poorest community in Bocas del Toro, Panama where small wooden structures on stilts and raised wooden walkways to each home keep this community of houses sitting above raw sewage. When Outpost Panama staff …

Snapshots from Abroad: Short Time in PNG Touches the Heart

Jaime Gomez News, Stories

“Immediately my heart was stirred and I began to look into opportunities to serve.” Originally from Southern Alberta, Canada, Melanie Snider, Nurse Practioner, recently volunteered with one of our teams on board the m/v Pacific Link in Papua New Guinea (PNG). Having known about YWAM before from family and friends, it wasn’t until YWAM’s founder Loren Cunningham spoke about the medical ships ministry within the organization that Melanie’s heart began to stir. “I have always had a heart for medical missions but drew back mostly …

Hope in the Midst of Suffering

Jaime Gomez News, Stories

I had been in Kimbe, Papua New Guinea, for only a week, having joined two Discipleship Training School teams already ministering out of the m/v PACIFIC LINK — a YWAM medical and training ship. Now I found myself in the pediatric unit of the local hospital, feeling unprepared to minister. The staff had done their best to make the ward as cheerful a place as possible. Photos of animals hung on the off-white walls and they had painted the ceiling beams a bright yellow. I, however, didn’t …

Snapshots from Abroad: God’s Surprises for Us

Jaime Gomez News, Stories

“We were hungry. We were exhausted. It was 4 hours of driving mountainous terrain and an hour and 1/2 of walking through the mud with boxes. We waited on the beach. Michael started a fire so the smoke would keep the mosquitos away while some of our team threw some pitpit (cane grass) on the fire. I was ready to eat anything at that moment. We could hear the banana boats before they arrived. Little by little, I could see the shapes emerging from the blackness. There …

Ministering to Jesus

Jaime Gomez News, Stories

HAELLA PLANTATION, Papua New Guinea  — Rhonda Hamilton was having a rough day. So many people waited for treatment at the mobile clinic set up by YWAM volunteers that she chose to skip lunch in order to continue administering healthcare. She had also not slept well the night before and now exhaustion threatened. Yet Rhonda knew that whatever we do for “the least of these,” we do it for our Savior. A poignant reminder of this truth came in the afternoon when one of the volunteers manning …

Songs for Manuelyne

Jaime Gomez News

We had just finished our lunch break, reluctant to leave the shade of the plumeria and palm trees sheltering the plank huts that made up the neighborhood know as Sector 21 in Kimbe, Papua New Guinea. Our team of medical professionals, DTS students and media team were halfway through our second day in this impoverished neighborhood. Margaret, our photographer, another team member and myself comprised the media team. I was looking for stories; someone with a debilitating ailment that only we could help or someone …

Marshall Islands Team Helps Give Back to the Community

Jaime Gomez Stories

For the past 7 weeks our team of nine has been working hard and ministering to different areas in the Marshall Islands. We have partnered up with the Sudernos, an amazing family of four who have been working long term for YWAM Ships in the Marshall Islands. They live on Ebeye, one of the main islands in the Marshall Islands, and take their 57 foot sailing vessel to reach more isolated islands. Our first week in Ebeye was spent celebrating Christmas and New Year’s while …

Medicine for Nason

Jaime Gomez Stories

From our home base on YWAM Ships Kona’s vessel the m/v Pacific Link, our team, consisting of four medical professionals, 13 DTS students, and a media team, had set up our mobile clinic for our first day of outreach. Our goal was to serve the needy of Kimbe, the largest of the many islands belonging to Papua New Guinea (PNG). People living in the impoverished or more remote areas on this island rarely, if ever, have medical care readily available to them. The location of …
