One of our January 2017 Justice DTS outreach teams has busy the past few weeks in the beautiful country of Cambodia!
They’ve been able to spend time in Siem Reap for a week partnering with Justice Water. They were going out to surrounding villages helping to build Bio-Sand Water Filters, and teaching the locals how to construct them themselves. While these efficient filters are being built, the team has been able to share the Gospel with many young people and plant seeds of hope! A previously unreached village in Siem Reap has now invited YWAM to come back and continue to teach their children and help with their water situation.
After Siem Reap, the team visited the YWAM Battambang base as well in order to continue to build a bigger perspective of the YWAM community in Cambodia as a whole. They served in children’s ministries and helped clean local ministry buildings during their time there.
When the team returned to their home base, the University of the Nations Poipet, they had the opportunity to join in celebrating the Khmer New Year! This is a large festive event filled with street parties, music, and food. It involves free-for-all water fights on the streets with the exciting element of baby powder thrown in as well! The team had the privilege of performing a traditional Khmer dance for the New Year’s Assembly at the school that their Poipet base partners with. Overall, the team’s chance to engage in local culture and celebration was a great time of cultural immersion and connection with the city of Poipet!
Next, the team will continue to partner in teaching English at local schools in Poipet and the Youth Development Center while also helping with YWAM community nights at the Poipet base.
This team is one of our longterm outreach teams. Students will be living in Cambodia from time spans of two to nine months. The team is very excited to be able to continue growing relationship and seeing longterm discipleship happen in the nation of Cambodia as they partner with the Poipet base.
