I Transformed Into A Little Girl In Awe Of A Massive, Gracious Father

This Christmas season marks three years of making a decision that changed my life.

If someone would have told me then where I would be now, a disbelieving laugh would have quickly followed. A calculated plan was in place, a University acceptance letter in my drawer and a graduation ceremony right around the corner.

After many months of planning my life out, a conversation on Christmas break with my sister in law changed my mind. Over the past few years I have learned that God is unpredictable and sometimes, right when you need it, He ruins your plans.

My name is Nikki and I have been apart of YWAM for just over two years now.

My DTS journey looked slightly different than most. It began shortly after high school in Perth, Australia. As a young eighteen year old Idaho girl I took a leap, obtained a passport and boarded my first international flight. I encountered God in a very real undeniable way during my time in Australia. The personal Jesus people spoke about, I met Him for myself. I transformed into a little girl in awe of a massive, gracious Father. Those weeks were some of the most transformational of my life.

Unfortunately after two months I unexpectedly had to say goodbye to my newfound friends and starts practicing what I had been learning about trusting God.

My grandma was suddenly diagnosed with cancer which led me to go home earlier than planned to take care of her and be with family.

Jesus proved His faithfulness during that time, as well as His consistency.

While my time in Perth was cut short, that wasn’t the end of God’s plan for my time in YWAM. Following the new year of 2015, God took me to a place of redemption in my DTS journey. He brought me to YWAM Ships where I have remained the last two years.

After attending one and a half DTS’s as a student, it remains one of the best experiences of my life. DTS created a space in my life to encounter God and I am forever grateful. Since that time I have continued on, doing a Bible school and joining staff here in Kona.

Now my job is to be a part of staffing DTS’s and seeing God encounter each student in a new, captivating way.

Let’s just say I love what I do and I am sold on training disciples to make this world look more like Jesus.
