The concept of God’s provision is somewhat foreign in the world today. The standard most live by is to go to school, get a degree, work hard, pay bills, go on vacation, etc.

All of which are good and necessary realities of life. The world continues to go around on its axis and day after day people go on with their lives.

So what happens when the Lord calls a man to start a nonprofit, volunteer based mission organization fully dependent on Jesus providing all the finances?

Loren Cunningham had a vision from God in his early 20’s of waves of young people going into the mission field. The organization now known as Youth With A Mission (YWAM) consisted of one man and no money.

Vision

Youth With A Mission exists to “Know God and make Him known” through training, evangelism and mercy ministries. It comes as a shock to people when they discover the over 15,000 full-time long-term volunteer staff within YWAM do not receive any form of income through the mission.

We actually pay to volunteer.

Each YWAM volunteer is independently responsible to fund-raise, build a network of monthly supporters and trust God to come through with the necessary money to live life. I have been a part of this organization for almost three years now and can attest to the fact that Jesus provides, every time.

One of my favorite testimonies of God’s provision in my own life happened just one year ago as I was preparing to lead a team on outreach. After many calculations, it came out that I was still in need of over $1,200 within the week. I posted on Facebook and emailed some of my supporters but honestly, to this day, I am unsure of where all the money came from.
Within a few days, however, all my fees were paid and I had even more than I needed. I could locate most of the funds by people who had pledged to donate but I still have no idea where the several hundreds of dollars that were in abundance came from.

My advise to someone considering joining YWAM, attending DTS or volunteering would be to not fear the financial aspect but jump fully in to what the Lord is leading you to do, and have confidence that the money will follow your obedience.

Let Go and Let God

It’s incredible to witness the miracles when you fully surrender to what the Lord is specifically leading you to do. This lifestyle isn’t for everyone but I am living proof that it is possible.
